Basic safety training for deckhands
The basic safety training for deckhands is meant for newcomers in inland shipping who have not worked on a ship before, and are not aware of the dangers which can occur when working on board a ship.
Some of the topics covered in this training include:
use of life-saving appliances, safe movement on board, handling emergency situations, working with ropes and wires, fire fighting, risks caused by noise and use of personal protection means, handling hazardous materials on board, first aid.
3 days (6 half-days), including the completion of an e-learning module prior to the on-board training
The basic safety training for deckhands is intended for newcomers in inland shipping who have not worked on a ship before.
This training is specially aimed at new crew members who do not have a service book yet.
The basic safety training for deckhands includes both theoretical and practical components.
Topics covered during the training sessions include:
- Use of life-saving appliances to prevent drowing
- The special work environment on board a ship
- Fire fighting
- Risks caused by noise
- Handling of hazardous materials on board a ship
- Basic first aid
The theoretical knowledge learned during the training is put into practice on board the ship through simulated drills. We have all the necessary training materials and, in most cases, employ actors to play the parts of victims with whom various emergency scenarios can be practiced.
Successfully completing this training entitles the trainee to a certificate of compliance.
With his certificate of compliance, the sailors book can be issued by the competent authority.
Certificates of compliance are issued by Op Koers! Maritiem as prescribed by and under the supervision of the Dutch authority CBR/ CCV.
